Neck Lifts

Although other cosmetic surgical procedures may get more attention, perhaps neck lift surgery should be the one you consider first. After all, your neck can be one of the first places to show your real age. And it's not just advancing age that can affect the look of your neck. Hereditary fat deposits (such as the dreaded double or even triple chin) and gravity can also take their toll. When the skin under your chin slackens, you can develop "turkey neck" or "turkey wattle."

Whether your neck is affected by age, your genes, the pull of gravity or the harsh effects of the sun and wind, neck lift surgery may be an option. In a nutshell, a neck lift removes excess sagging skin under your jawline and on your neck. The platysma muscle of your neck can be adjusted and tightened if it has begun to separate and sag.

A neck lift creates a more defined and youthful-looking neck. It covers a smaller area than a face-lift does and is sometimes called a mini face-lift. Neck lift surgery corrects the signs of aging on the neck and the jaw line. It often accompanies face lift surgery for a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. The benefits of neck lift surgery include:

  • Removing loose, sagging skin from under the chin
  • Correcting visible vertical bands on the neck
  • Eliminating areas of fat from under the chin (double chin) and on the neck
  • Restoring a smooth, youthful-looking neck

Dr. Singer usually performs neck lift surgery as an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia. Loose skin is pulled up and back and removed; neck muscles are often tightened as well. The incisions are hidden inconspicuously behind the ears. The result is an enhanced, more pleasing neck and jaw line.
